When my 13-year-old Maytag 'wave died, this one was recommended by customer service as a straight-in replacement. And it is, although ever-so-slightly larger in capacity, brighter lighting, quieter running. It is definitely bulkier, but still fit in the same opening. I miss the old unit's exhaust system, on the front, back into the room, instead of on the top straight up the cabinets, but otherwise it's been an easy transition and works well. I had no idea how addicted I'd become to using the microwave until I went 10 days without one! Glad to have this one; hope the door-latch problem noted by reviewers of the Maytag version does not affect this unit. Slowly going Whirlpool -- got a Whirlpool French-door fridge earlier this year when my 2-year-old LG crashed and burned. Happy so far -- mindful of the potential latch issue on these products; ask me again in two years.

The builder of my new home has had my microwave replaced three times. The door and control assembly have also been replaced. All to no avail! At multiple times per day, the micro won't start- it indicates 'door'. I open and close the door. Then it starts. All three microwaves had this problem. Most annoying!!! I'd like a factory technician, who may understand this problem, contact me since the local Santa Fe techs haven't been able to resolve the issue. Video added.

I replaced an old beige plastic Whirlpool microwave that came with my house. I believe it lasted 35 years! That's quality. I bought it from a local appliance stores' website; the only surprising thing is how shiny it is (I would've preferred a matte finish).
